On Monday, April 18th over 50 students from Justin F. Kimball High School and H. Grady Spruce High School were awarded with a day of mentoring, makeovers and advising from fashion director and star of TLC’s Say Yes To The Dress: Atlanta- Monte Durham in a national initiative titled Say Yes To the Prom
Exemplary students relished in choosing their favorites pieces from over 2,000 donated dresses and tuxedo rentals paired with accessories and shoes at the Westin Downtown Dallas. Each being treated to a luxurious experience receiving custom tailoring services, full hair and makeup makeovers and a memorable one on one style session with Monte on behalf of JCPenney, AT&T, People Magazine and Sherri Hill.
The young men and women took to the red carpet runway reveal show with excitement to show off their new prom looks. Exuberance filled the modern venue with grateful DISD students, parents and volunteers as prom attire was one less stress taken away during senior year. Chief Advancement Officer for the Dallas County Community College District and Executive Director of the DCCCD Foundation Pyeper Wilkins announced that every qualified participant in the program would receive free tuition to earn an Associate’s Degree at one of eight community colleges in Dallas County Community College District.
Say Yes To the Prom made it’s fourth out of five stops in Dallas. To date, over 300 students in NYC, Miami and Los Angeles have been recipients of the national initiative. There’s one more stop in Silver Spring, MD in May and I’m sure it’ll be just as fabulous!
