March into theaters for SELMA!!

January 9, 2015

POWERFUL, THOUGHT- PROVOKING AND NEEDED are words that describe Selma and Dallas most familiar faces such as Commissioner John Wiley Price, Senator Royce West, councilman Dwaine Caraway and a host of others gathered at Studio Movie Grill to watch the highly anticipated film produced by Oprah Winfrey and Brad Pitt.

Selma is about the 1965 Selma to Montgomery, AL voting rights marches. It also gives a glimpse into the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. portrayed by David Oyelowo. The film puts a human face on someone who was considered a prophet while alive and the viewer is shown his life as the head of the non-violent movement as well as his relationship with his family. It also tells the little known story of the love and resentment that was existed between different factions of the Civil Rights movement.  David Oyelowo is amazing and inspiring in his depiction of the slain Civil Rights leader. The viewer is able to see several sides of Dr. King that aren’t common knowledge like his negotiation and debate skills on display in a session with President Lyndon Johnson, as well as his marital discretions that were scarcely mentioned but very well pronounced. Some have argued with the historical accuracy of Selma stating that President Johnson is unfairly shown and it depicts him only giving support to Dr. King when he really had no other choice. Despite any questions the movie fantastically sets a strong mood and delivers powerful performances from all the players.

Selma is one of those movies that everyone should see! You’ll feel just about every emotion imaginable...
