With authentic Mexican entrees, homemade guacamole and fresh salsa El Pollo Loco is making a name for itself and making Texas its new home. Last week the Mexican grill hosted a sneak peek at what’s to come in fire grilled chicken throughout the Dallas metroplex. The chefs prepared dishes that left my tastebuds craving for more.
At NorthPark’s PIRCH the menu was set. Cooking demos from executive chefs while sharing how the various tortillas are used for each dish and a secret menu (see below).
Appetizers featured were Corn Tortilla Chips, Chunky Guacamole, Avocado Salsa and Pico De Gallo. Entrees included Bone- In Chicken, Chicken Fajita Burritos, Chicken Avocado Stuffed Quesadillas, Pollo Bowl, Shrimp Avocado Taco and Under 500: Chicken Avocado Tortilla Wrap and lastly Dessert: Churros! I mean really, what’s a Mexican meal without Churros for dessert?
MY PERSONAL FAVS:
Chunky Guacamole: Hand-sliced Hass avocados mashed with fresh lemon juice, tomatoes, cilantro, onions, diced serrano peppers and garlic salt. I LOVE my guacamole chunky! The freshness of the avocados used touched my soul! People do not understand that guacamole has to be used with FRESH avocados but El Pollo Loco gets it!
Chicken Fajita Burrito: Hand prepared with fire-grilled chicken, onions, bell peppers, sour cream, black beans, rice and jack cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla. The chicken used is so moist, tender and flavorful delivering a savory fete.
Chicken Avocado Stuffed Quesadilla: An overstuffed flour tortilla full of seasoned chicken, jack cheese, cabbage, pico de gallo, avocado and our signature creamy cilantro dressing. The tortilla was prepared just like I like them- buttery with a little crisp! The avocado, cabbage and cilantro dressing added a zest that is undeniably exceptional.
The chef mentioned different parts of the chicken are used in each dish, i.e. thigh, breast, leg and that helps with making the dish an impeccable blend of flavor. The scoop on the secret menu… you can ask for “wing lovers", a large cup of salsa, fried poblano peppers and you can get each as spicy as you’d like.
After it was all said and done we left with full bellies and a swag bag stuffed with our very own Loco cutting boards, apron, recipe book and more!
