Self-acclaimed “93 year old cover girl; which ain’t easy” Iris Apfel drops into Dallas during the USA Film Festival to showcase her documentary “Iris”. The first time on the silver screen for the flamboyant fashionista she talks her thoughts about the film, where she stopped to shop when she hit the DFW metroplex and fallacies about herself. As chic as she is, Iris doesn’t get internet shopping and she makes it clear she is NOT of the fashion realm.
I’ve said this a million times and will say a million more, Iris Apfel is a well of wisdom and she makes it very clear that originality is what she has always been. I mean “why should she care what people think”- citing that most people don’t know who they are.
In my 14 minute sit down with the icon she proved that she is not just “a empty headed fashionista”. I realized just how witty she is and I’ll do tea and cookies with her anytime. Her love for fashion is impressive but her love for life raises an all new standard. Here are some of my favorite quotes from Iris Apfel during the interview that you can watch at YouTube.com/TheVannaCollinsShow
“I speak the truth and I tell people what I think and a lot of people in the fashion business don’t do that”
“There is a terrible yearning for glamour and fantasy. Fantasy, fantasy and some mystery”
“I don’t know why everyone wants to look the same, I find it exceedingly boring”
“I’ve never had a business plan so I never knew what I was going to do next or what would fall my way”
“I think the world is very grey”
“I don’t understand how anybody can take drugs for pleasure”
“You have to have the courage of your convictions”
“I always believe there is no free lunch”
“I never worried about what was said, if people didn’t like it, I figure it was their problem not mine”
“If you try to be all things to all people you’ll end up being nothing to nobody”
A lot of people say they want to do their own thing but they ain’t got nothing to do”
Someone pinch me, this interview is definitely something that I will hold near and dear to my heart. I suggest you see the documentary and get a first class seat on how rich this soul (Iris) is. Iris opens in theaters May 15th!
