From the Director of Love and Basketball, BEYOND THE LIGHTS is the story of Noni, (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) a hot new award-winning artist who is on her way to superstardom. She cracks under the pressure of the industry and wants to end things until she meets Kaz Nicol (Nate Parker), a promising young cop and aspiring politician. They fall for each other but are pushed away by outside influences. Now, I know your all thinking..."I know how this will end!" You may but what you don't know is about the journey along the way. I give this movie a 7.5 out of 10. Gugu is a new actress with a promising career and I enjoy watching and believing her character on screen. Nate Parker- The Great Debaters is a powerful actor (he reminds me of a young Denzel) and he's very, very easy on the eyes and so is that body. Did I say he's easy on the eyes? Oh yes, he is. The storyline was good but I felt the relationship was rushed. The villain, Noni's mother Macy Jean played by acclaimed actress Minnie Driver reminds us that the industry and "claim to fame" can ruin one. Now, the reasons you should watch: 1. Fun and exciting on screen chemistry and plot 2. Much of the film reminds us of a young celebrity we know....shade 3. Nate Parker has one hell of a body 4. African American leading cast 5. It's a new age "Bodygaurd" and well, who didn't like "The Bodygaurd"
